North Jutland is the perfect holiday destination if you want to get out and about and experience a lot of beautiful nature

You'll find a whole host of hiking routes in all kinds of terrain and surroundings, taking you past exciting sights and experiences along the way.
Whether you want to go hiking, horse riding, dog walking, amber hunting or something completely different, North Jutland can help create the perfect nature experience for you.
In North Jutland there are hiking routes for every physical level. The region offers countless hiking routes from north to south, and from east to west.
The Northeast Trail takes you from Bulbjerg to Skagen and leads you past a wide range of interesting sights of both historical and cultural nature along the way.
In Rebild Bakker, which is part of Rold Forest, there are also great opportunities to experience beautiful nature while getting exercise.
On Hærvejen you can experience a bit of history as it is actually part of the historic pilgrimage route that stretches from Trondheim in the north to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Travelling from the south, Hærvejen splits in two at Viborg, where it leads east to Frederikshavn.
This is a 32 kilometre long hiking route that you can also cycle. It starts at Dronninglund Castle and will take you through Dronninglund Storskov, where you'll find the highest point in Vendsyssel (Knøsen, 136 metres above sea level). The route ends in Østervrå.
A 2 kilometre trail in the middle of scenic surroundings that starts at Pikkerbakken in Frederikshavn and continues past Bangsbo Fort in a southerly direction. The route is especially ideal if you want to enjoy the beautiful views of the Kattegat.
In several towns in Northern Jutland you'll find the so-called Clover Trails, which each consist of four routes with a common starting point and different lengths. You'll find Kløverstier trails in Hirtshals, Sæby, Lønstrup, Løkken and Hjørring. Here you get the opportunity to experience beautiful nature areas and historical attractions and cities as you walk along.

If you have a dog on holiday, you should explore one of the many dog forests in North Jutland.
For example, at the campsite we have our very own fenced dog forest of 0.1 hectares, while north of the campsite there is a larger dog forest of 25 hectares, where you can walk your dog off-leash if it is under control. In other words, Skagen Sydstrand Camping is ideal for those who want to go on a camping holiday with their dog.
At the campsite, dogs must always be kept on a leash.
In spring and autumn, dogs are allowed to run on the beach and swim in the sea.

In several places in North Jutland it is possible to experience nature from horseback. All year round, horseback riding tours are organised for both children and adults.
Not far from Skagen Sydstrand Camping is Langagergaard, which offers guided rides on Icelandic horses in both plantation and beach areas. The Icelandic horse is very popular for this type of riding, and beginners, advanced riders, children and adults alike can try their hand at riding Icelandic horses. In summer there are rides several times a day.
It takes patience if you want to be lucky enough to find amber. But it's all worth it when you finally have a big, beautiful piece of amber in your hand. Amber can be up to 30-50 million years old, so it's a precious find you could be lucky enough to get your hands on.
At first, digging through seaweed on the beach in search of amber can seem frustrating and pointless without any rewards. But as you gain more and more experience, patience and a little bit of luck, you increase your chances of winning.
The best chance of finding amber on the west coast of Jutland is often after a few days of wind from the west or south-west, which has hopefully washed valuable remains onto the beach. Most amber nuggets are found in shallow water.
In addition to the good opportunities for finding amber on the west coast, the coastline of Ålbæk Bay is also worth exploring. In general, there are good opportunities all along Ålbæk Bay and all the way down to Hals.

When you visit us, you are so close to Skagen that it is definitely worth a visit too.
